Riu Palace Zanzibar is a “beautiful beach” hotel in a new destination for TUI, soon to become adults-only.
With the purchase of a hotel on the island of Zanzibar, the TUI hotel brand Riu is continuing its slow but steady expansion around the Indian Ocean.
TUI Group wants to become more focused on year-round destinations, facilitating the profitable operation of resorts throughout the year. This coming winter, after keeping its existing characteristics for the summer, the hotel will become part of the adults-only Riu Palace range offering all-inclusive service.
The luxury Riu Palace Zanzibar, with 102 rooms and suites, is located on the northern tip of the East African island, which is a semi-autonomous region in Tanzania. With it, Riu is complementing its products in the Indian Ocean, which include two hotels in Mauritius and one in Sri Lanka.
The Zanzibar property already belongs to the exclusive Leading Hotels of The World collection thanks partly to its location on Nungwi Beach, which TUI says is one of the most beautiful of the island. It has three restaurants, two bars, a spa, a children’s club, conference rooms, gym and tennis court.
RIU bought the hotel from the Emerald chain, which has up to now operated it as the Hideaway of Nungwi Resort & Spa.
Visitors can combine a safari through the Serengeti National Park with a stay on the long sandy beaches, the operator adds. Another highlight is the historical centre of Zanzibar City, also known as Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
