New hotel to add to Port-au-Prince’s 500 rooms

Port-au-Prince Marriott Hotel will be company’s first in Haiti

New economic activity is critical in Haiti as efforts continue to rebuild Port-au-Prince in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in 2010. With this apparently in mind, Marriott International has announced that it will open the $45 million, 173-room Port-au-Prince Marriott Hotel. Marriott says it will also invest in hospitality training to benefit Haiti’s tourism sector. Construction is expected to begin in 2012, with an opening anticipated for mid-2014. There are currently only around 500 hotel rooms operating in the city.
The Clinton Foundation has worked closely with Marriott to develop this project, visiting proposed construction sites and facilitating introductions to the Haitian government and the Haitian Tourism Association.
