New Nordic design to arrive at New York hotel

New hotel 11 Howard to combine creative with Nordic
Nordic design and a cutting-edge culinary concept is promised at a new hotel opening in New York in March. Collaboration with artists and local businesses and NGOs will also take place there.
Describing the new property, which has the name 11 Howard, Berlin-based Design Hotels says it “is set to take on New York’s hotel scene with its unique blend of cutting-edge Scandinavian design and socially-conscious hyper-localism.”
Located in the city’s chic SoHo district, the 221-room hotel “embodies an authentic vision of a community hub through collaborations with contemporary artists”, according to Design Hotels.
“Throw in a culinary concept from restaurateur-extraordinaire Stephen Starr and dynamic co-working space, the 11H Collective, and you have Manhattan’s most eagerly-awaited new downtown haunt.”
Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard of the Danish design studio Space Copenhagen worked to create the “sleek aesthetics” of the hotel.
“We have commissioned designers from Denmark renowned for defying habits and employing a sincere personal vision to their design,” says real estate mogul and art collector Aby Rosen about the project.
11 Howard’s aesthetics are informed by the design studio’s signature new-Nordic minimalism, featuring custom lighting and furnishings by Mads Raaschou and Gubi. All rooms have high ceilings and windows that “allow for an abundance of natural light, with a material palette of subtly-hued variations of wood, warm metals, velvet and wool that will grow in character as it ages.”
