New Nordic hotels join Design portfolio

Design Hotels welcomes Miss Clara and Skt. Petri

A number of new properties have joined the Design Hotels collection of unique boutique hotels, among them two in the Nordic countries – Miss Clara in Stockholm and the newly renovated Skt. Petri in Copenhagen.

Design Hotels says that both places, like the others it is welcoming into its portfolio of around 260 member hotels, have “sustainably smart architecture, the regeneration of treasured buildings to effortless living paired with mindful design”.

Opening in April 2014, Miss Clara is situated within one of Stockholm’s most alluring Art Nouveau buildings, the former Ateneum girl’s school. Under the management of the dynamic Nobis Group, Miss Clara – named after the school’s first headmistress Clara Strömberg – has high ceilings, expansive windows and grand rooms.

Built in 1910, the old school building has been carefully restored, the windows overlooking the Sveavägen boulevard. At street-level, a restaurant and bar will be opened.

Situated on a street in Copenhagen’s Latin Quarter, Skt. Petri “offers modern urban living matched with pared down style and to-the-point functionality”, Design Hotels says. Norwegian hotel magnate Petter A Størdalen recently bought the hotel, a former 1930s department store.

Mirroring the experience guests have at The Thief in Oslo and Copperhill Mountain Lodge in Sweden’s Åre, the conceptual focus is the hotel’s locale. Skt. Petri will undergo extensive renewal and renovation in the coming year.

Other new additions to the Design Hotels portfolio include the 25Hours Hotel Bikini Berlin; Piet Boon Bonaire in Kralendijk on the inviting Caribbean island of Bonaire; The Royal Snail, Namur, Belgium; the Anemi Hotel, Cyclades, Greece; the Grace Beijing, China; the Zash Country Boutique Hotel, Riposto, Sicily; and Rooms Hotel Kazbegi, Stepantsminda, Georgia
