New pier boosts Kristiansand’s cruise profile

Port has geographically strong location to attract ships
Situated between the cities Oslo and Bergen, the port of Kristiansand has a geographically strong location to attract cruise ships. Now it also has a new Oasis-class sized pier to take bigger vessels.
The pier was inaugurated with its first call at the end of May. A total of 51 calls are scheduled for the 2017 cruise season, with a larger number expected next year.
The port also offers free wi-fi to passengers and crew, plus discharge of black water for the cruise ships.
“We have capacity to increase the number of port calls both in high season and low-season,” says a port spokesperson.
Kristiansand’s make-over gives it “a very modern and up-to-date cruise pier”, according to the association Cruise Baltic.
“We have worked hard on securing a modern pier for cruise ships and our hope is being able to increase the number of port calls and take a position in the market of cruise destinations,” Thomas Granfeldt, the port’s assistant director, said.
Cruise Baltic director Claus Bødker: “With the new cruise pier in Kristiansand, the area of the Baltic Sea is even more attractive for cruises to visit.”
