Nordics in list of world’s best boutique hotels

Juvet Landscape Hotel and Tree Hotel among list of ten

Inspire by the opening next month of the Yanqi Lake Kempinski in Beijing, revered newspaper The Guardian presents a round-up of the world’s ten most amazing boutique hotels. The surreal 97-metre-high Yanqi Lake Kempinski is designed to look like the mouth of a fish when seen from the front and a scallop when viewed from the side.

Two hotels in the Nordic countries are in the list. The Tree Hotel in Sweden includes the Mirror Cube, a room that remains almost completely camouflaged in the forest. Another of the rooms resembles a UFO, and one more is a mesh of twigs and branches that looks like a bird’s nest.

The Juvet Landscape Hotel in Alstad, Norway, is “a minimalist structure that aims to immerse the guest in the nature that surrounds it,” the newspaper says, with seven pine-and-glass buildings throughout a forest.

Other hotels listed include the colourful towering Inntel Hotel in Zaandam, the Netherlands; Room, a robotic-looking one-bedroom suite designed by artist Antony Gormley attached to London’s Beaumont Hotel; the Marques de Riscal in Rioja, Spain; IHG’s golden bowl-shaped Davos Hotel in Switzerland; the minimal Fogo Island Inn in the dramatic landscape of Newfoundland, Canada; the Miura in Čeladná, Czech Republic; and the curving wooden Tierra Patagonia Hotel, which “brings a touch of Scandinavia” to Chile.
