Norway investigates future rail lines

Link to cut travel between Oslo, Hønefoss, Sandvika

A plan is being launched for a new intercity rail route just to the north of Oslo, between Hønefoss and Sandvika. The Norwegian government has commissioned the national rail administration Jernbaneverket to draw up initial research.

NOK 20 million (€2.4 million) is being invested on a feasibility study for the proposed Ringerike Line, which would cut travel times between Hønefoss, Sandvika and Oslo.

Jernbaneverket is examining a proposed route for the line and considering whether it could be built through public-private partnership.

The Ringerike Line is one of four new planned intercity routes, the others connecting Oslo with Skien, Lillehammer and Halden. The government will present the findings of the study when the national budget for 2015 is presented later in the year.
