Norway-Russia border traffic increasing

August was 13th month in a row with a rise in traffic
More than 23,000 crossings were registered over the Finnmark border station in Storskog in August, a further sign that traffic across the border to and from Russia is increasing steadily.
August was the 13th month in a row with a rise in traffic, and so far this year there have been 178,830 border crossings at this point, which is 22,000 more than the same period last year.
The stats compel police chief Ellen Katrine Hætta to say it’s time for a new border control station. Proposals for an updated facility have been on the table for a long time.
Most people who cross the border here are from Murmansk visiting Norway to shop, but there are also a number of Norwegians travelling to Russia to fill up on cheaper petrol.
