Norwegian: almost 30% passenger growth

Airline carried more than 1.7 million pax in April

Norwegian reports today that it saw strong passenger growth in April, due to a variety of different factors. The airline carried more than 1.7 million passengers during the month, an increase of 27% compared to the same month last year. The carrier explains the figures by the fact that it opened two new bases in the UK and Spain and launched several new routes, considerably increasing capacity. The number of routes in Finland and Denmark has almost doubled compared with April 2012.
Norwegian now offers 10 new routes from London Gatwick, most of which are direct routes to the European continent and the Mediterranean. In April 2013, the carrier had 10 more aircraft in operation than the previous month.
Norwegian also points to its passengers flying longer distances than previously, resulting in traffic growth (RPK) of 36%. Total capacity increased by 40%. However, load factor declined by 2.2 percentage points to 73.6%.
