Norwegian closes website after New York fever

Demand results in temporary shutdown of website

When Norwegian announced flights between Stockholm and New York for less than SEK 1,000 one-way (€117) yesterday, the intense demand resulted in a temporary shutdown of its website.
“Dear customer, due to extreme demand, we are closing our website for a short time in order to increase capacity and stability”, the carrier said in a statement.
As previously reported, Norwegian has been planning to extend its flight network to include long-haul destinations using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. It then made the official announcement that New York would be the first destination, with flights from Stockholm Arlanda starting in May 2013, to be followed by Bangkok in June. The minimum price for tickets to New York JFK was SEK 1,199, the return journey priced at SEK 964. However, with the website now reopened, most of these tickets appear to have already been bought up.
