Norwegian postpones talks to buy more Boeings

Carrier postpones talks to buy 20 new 787 Dreamliners

Norwegian has postponed talks to buy 20 new 787 Dreamliners from Boeing. It says this because of a delay in receiving approval from the US Department of Transportation for its long-haul plans.

The Nordic low-cost carrier flies from Europe to the US and Asia based on a license issued by non-EU Norway. But it has applied to fly to the US on an Irish license, in order to take advantage of wider traffic rights offered by the EU-US open skies agreement.

Unions and other airlines have been in opposition to the plan, which cuts costs by using Asian crews – and it’s this that is delaying the US Department of Transportation decision.
