Budget carrier agrees three-year deal with Scandinavian pilots

Norwegian has signed a new three-year collective agreement with unions representing its Scandinavian pilots.

A growing shortage of pilots in Europe has forced several airlines, including Norwegian and its low-cost competitor Ryanair, to cancel flights in recent months. It has also led to staff poaching.

Terms not made public
The deal will give its Norwegian, Swedish and Danish pilots “continued competitive conditions” and good career opportunities, the budget carrier said. The terms of the deal have not been made public.

“We are very pleased that we have agreed on the framework for a new collective agreement that provides Norwegian predictability when the group is expanding strongly,” Norwegian Pilot Services’ chief executive Lars Rønnov said.

The agreement involves around 1,000 pilots, around a third of the airline’s total worldwide. Final details, when agreed, will go to union members for ratification.

Meanwhile, in other news, Norwegian has been awarded the title of Best Low Cost Airline Europe for the fifth consecutive year by, an aviation industry website used by over 20 million travellers worldwide.
