Operator apologises for “terrorist” poolside fun

Gun-wielding actors startle tourists at five-star resort in Turkey
A tour operator has apologised to its customers after a Turkish hotel’s entertainment left them fearing they were being targeted in a terrorist attack.
Jet2Holidays said it was sorry to holidaymakers staying at the five-star Grand Yazici Mares resort in Icmeler, which is on sale via operators such as Thomas Cook, First Choice and lowcostholidays.
According to media reports, they were relaxing by the pool when a group of men wearing outfits and carrying pretend guns suddenly appeared.
“It was the hotel’s idea of entertainment for the day,” tourist Jason Phythian told UK daily The Sun. “They thought it was funny to run around the pool dressed as terrorists.”
A spokeswoman for Jet2holidays said, “The hotel management have assured us it was never their intention to cause any offence or upset with their entertainment programme. This was a Hollywood-themed poolside show, which included the characters Rambo and Superman, and it is always well received by the hotel’s residents.
“The management now understands some of the costumes may have caused offence and will no longer use these in their shows.”
