Operators: Maldives unrest not affecting tourism

Kuoni: “We continue to offer holidays to the resort islands”

Despite the political unrest that has struck the Maldives in recent weeks, resulting in what some have described as a coup against the country’s first democratically elected president, tour operators insist that the nation’s large number of spas and luxury resorts located on idyllic atolls and islands remain unaffected.
Sue Lyall, product manager at Exsus Travel: “The unrest is only really affecting the island of Malé, so for us it’s business as usual. […] We’ve had a few people concerned, but at the moment we haven’t had anyone cancel.”
Suzanne Vermigle, Kuoni operations manager: “We are following [government travel advice] and currently do not offer an excursion to Malé, but we continue to offer holidays to the resort islands which along with the airport island of Hulhule are unaffected by the current demonstrations.”
