Oslo one of “key cities” for Marriott Moxy launch

Moxy is “lifestyle brand especially for the next generation”

The 229-room MOXY Oslo Exporama, located around 15 minutes from both the Norwegian capital’s city centre and main airport and scheduled to open in autumn 2015, is one of six hotels scheduled to open in Europe by the end of next year under Marriott International’s new Moxy Hotels brand.

The first property to be unveiled with the brand will be the Moxy Milan Malpensa, set to open in September this year.

Moxy is described as a “lifestyle brand designed especially for the next generation”. Besides Oslo and Milan, the other “key destinations” are Berlin, which will get two Moxys, Munich and Frankfurt. Marriott says it expects to sign a further 13 hotels in Europe by the end of 2014.

Moxy is “a fresh and innovative lifestyle hotel brand created especially for the millennial traveller which combines contemporary design and approachable service at a reasonable price,” and is projected to reach 150 hotels within the next ten years”.

The hotels expected to open by 2015, besides Oslo, are the 162-room MOXY Milan Malpensa Airport, located at Terminal Two and scheduled to open in September 2014; the 317-room MOXY Munich Airport, located near the main terminal, to open in spring 2015; the 190-room MOXY Berlin Ostbahnhof the near train station of the same name, to open in spring 2015; the 305-room MOXY Frankfurt Gateway Gardens near Frankfurt Airport, scheduled to open in summer 2015; and the 266-room MOXY Berlin Airport, located at the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport and due to open in autumn 2015.

Marriott is working on the Oslo property with Nordic Hospitality, a Norwegian hotel management and development company already operating Marriott hotels in Scandinavia under a franchise agreement. This company’s pipeline currently includes hotels in Poland, Finland and the Netherlands.

In August 2012, a new central office in Amsterdam was established to support development and operations for the new Moxy hotels.
