Portugal wants Lufthansa to consider buying TAP

Privitisation on the cards as Portugal looks for ways to raise money

TAP Portugal is up for privitisation soon as the cash-strapped country looks for ways to raise money. Although it has been suggested that the award-winning flag carrier would be an asset to International Airlines Group, created with the merger of British Airways and Iberia in 2010, Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho now says that Lufthansa should consider buying it.
“Lufthansa would be very well advised if it would develop the market in South America and Africa together with the Portuguese airline TAP,” Coelho told the newspaper Handelsblatt.
