Qatar Airways to join alliance, sources say

Announcement on membership said to be scheduled for Monday

Reuters reports that Qatar Airways will soon become the first major airline from the Gulf states to join an alliance. An agreement with oneworld will be announced at a press conference in New York next Monday, sources close to the alliance tell the newswire, with IAG’s chief executive Willie Walsh, American Airlines CEO Tom Horton and oneworld CEO Bruce Ashby in attendance.
However, neither Qatar Airways nor the alliance is commenting on the speculation of such an event.
