Radisson Hotel Group has announced the signing of the region’s first RED, due to open in 2020.
Radisson Hotel Group has announced the signing of the first ever Radisson RED in the Nordics, scheduled to open in Iceland’s capital Reykjavik by 2020.
Radisson RED is the group’s “upscale, select service hotel brand that presents a playful twist on the conventional”.
With this latest property it aims to “inject new life into hospitality through informal services where anything goes, a social scene that’s waiting to be shared and bold design that kick-starts the fun”.
The newest RED joins others in Brussels, Campinas, Cape Town, Glasgow and Minneapolis and will bring the group’s Icelandic portfolio to four hotels open or in development.
The current properties include the boutique Radisson Blu 1919 Hotel in Reykjavik’s downtown area, the newly renovated Radisson Blu Saga in the west-town district, and the Park Inn by Radisson Reykjavik Keflavik, five kilometres from the international airport.
Coming amid Iceland’s ongoing tourism boom, the announcement reveals that the 195-room Radisson RED Reykjavik, set to open in the second quarter of 2020, will be a newly built property in the city centre with pedestrian access to the main retail, leisure and financial areas.
The 17-storey hotel will be “an ocean-front property offering guests panoramic views of the ocean, city and the surrounding mountain ridge”, the group says.
