Resort costs fall across Europe, rise in Turkey

Big price variations at destinations in and around Europe
There have been big price variations at holiday resorts in and around Europe over the last year, a new report says. But Turkey is the only tourist destination to have seen in-resort prices grow.
Price changes for typical holiday purchases like sun cream and a beer in 14 resorts were monitored in the UK Post Office’s annual Holiday Costs Barometer. The basket of 10 items also includes a coke, mineral water, an English newspaper and a three-course meal with bottle of wine.
Of these 14 resorts, 13 have seen price drops in the 2015 edition. The biggest fall was witnessed in Portugal’s Algarve, where prices fell 22%. The basket of goods there costs €61.65. But Marmaris in Turkey saw a 21.4% increase, due to inflation in the country.
Sunny Beach in Bulgaria remains the cheapest overall destination, with the same items costing €52.37 after a further price drop of 13.6%. Sorrento in Italy remains the most expensive resort, with a total bill of €142.31. Spain, meanwhile, is a mixed bag. The items come to £67.09 in the Costa del Sol, but almost twice the amount in Ibiza, at €133.97.
