Rolls-Royce to power more Norwegian planes

Latest version of Trent 1000 to power nine more 787-9s

Nine additional leased Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in Norwegian’s fleet will be powered by Rolls-Royce’s new Trent 1000-TEN engines – the latest version of the Trent 1000 with improved fuel economics – in a US$134 million deal.

Norwegian’s fleet expansion will take the total number of its Trent 1000-powered 787s to 17, news agency Reuters says. The carrier has also signed up for a long-term maintenance and servicing contract worth US$440 million.

“We have been very pleased with the Trent 1000 in-service performance and we look forward in particular to operating the Trent 1000-TEN engine which will set new standards on the aircraft,” Tore Jenssen, Norwegian’s chief operating officer, said.
