Ryanair to rebase Copenhagen aircraft to avoid strike

“This is a black day for the Danish economy,” Ryanair claims
Low-cost carrier Ryanair confirms it will move its staff in Copenhagen to Lithuania this week. The airline will continue to fly out of Copenhagen, but with aircraft and employees being based in Lithuania from Tuesday.
The decision is in response to a strike threat by Danish unions against what they say are poor working conditions offered by the airline.
Ryanair deployed one aircraft to CPH in March, insisting its pilots and crew enjoy high pay and job security. But Danish unions disagreed, saying that Ryanair employees there must work under a more secure Danish collective agreement.
“This is a black day for the Danish economy,” claimed Eddie Wilson, Ryanair’s head of personnel, in a statement. “Here you have Danish unions, who admit they don’t have any members in Ryanair, destroying highly paid jobs for Danish pilots and cabin crew.”
Ryanair’s operations in the Danish city of Billund, which have been running for several years, are also under threat as unions could also take action there.
