Five seasonal routes and more Copenhagen frequencies
As previously reported, Aarhus Airport has got its expansion deal. SAS has revealed it is investing a “three-digit million” krone sum in the East Jutland airport, launching direct routes to Stockholm, Oslo, Munich, Majorca and Split.
The plans were announced yesterday for new strategic cooperation between the two parties. The investment allows for around 3,000 new flights and more than 300,000 new seats at the airport within the first year.
Specifically, the five new routes are set for the 2018 summer schedules and, in addition, Malaga will be a full-year route. Together with the existing Copenhagen route, this means seven SAS routes at Aarhus in total.
SAS will also increase flights between Aarhus and the Danish capital by 20%, to “strengthen cohesion between east and west Denmark”. Overall, from next April, SAS will operate three to four aircraft at Aarhus. The airport should see a growth in traffic of more than 50%.
“We can see significant potential in the area” said SAS CCO Lars Sandahl Sørensen. “We are strengthening domestic traffic with several additional daily departures between Aarhus and Copenhagen. This makes it possible to use planes for transport to Copenhagen where access to our global network is available.
“In addition, we are creating a number of direct routes from Aarhus to holiday destinations, which we will continue to develop. This is a big effort for SAS and Aarhus Airport, and the venture will help create a number of jobs in and around Aarhus.”
