SAS completes Cimber deal, changes directors

Kent Hansen and Kjetil Grønevik appointed at Cimber

SAS says it is completing the acquisition of Cimber, the Danish airline formed after the bankruptcy of Cimber Sterling in May 2012. SAS has met all of the terms of the transaction, including approval from the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority.

As previously reported, the value of the transaction announced in December was DKK 20 million (€2.69 million). SAS has had a wet lease agreement for aircraft and crew with the carrier since 2004. The acquisition provides it with an opportunity to transfer smaller aircraft to Cimber, currently consisting of 12 CRJ 900s with a base in Copenhagen. As a result, “a more focused and flexible production can be achieved,” SAS says.

Kent Hansen has been appointed as the airline’s new president, succeeding the current president on March 1. Hansen was recruited from the Danish Transport Authority where he has been head of division at the Centre for Aviation. SAS has also appointed Kjetil Grønevik as finance director.

“With formal approval now in place, we look forward to making rapid progress in establishing the company as an efficient airline specialising in regional air traffic,” SAS President and CEO Rickard Gustafson said. “We will build a simple, focused and flexible organisation that is able to deliver SAS’s well-known product to our customers with punctuality, service and many departures.”
