SAS strike hits Sweden travel figures

Average of 5% for 2016 drops to 1% in June
A total of 3.6 million people flew to or from Swedish airports in June, a slight increase of 1% on the same month in 2015, contrasting with the 5% rise for the first half of 2016. Airport operator Swedavia blamed the recent SAS strike for having a strong impact mostly on domestic traffic.
Domestic traffic fell by 3% overall during June at Swedavia’s 10 airports, to almost 1.1 million passengers. The SAS strike saw some 800 flights cancelled, both domestic and within Europe, affecting around 150,000 passengers.
Internationally, 2.5 million people flew at Swedavia’s airports in June, up 3%. European traffic showed an increase of 3%, while travel to the rest of the world was up 11%.
During the first half of 2016, 12.1 million people flew internationally to or from one of Swedavia’s airports, a 6% increase compared to the first half of 2015. Domestic traffic was up 4% in the first half of 2016, to 6.8 million. A total of 18,914,000 passengers used Swedavia’s airports in H1 2016, up 5% on the previous year.
Travel was up at Swedavia’s three biggest airports in June, by 2% to 2,265,000 at Stockholm Arlanda; 3% to 615,000 at Göteborg Landvetter; and 6% to 222,000 at Stockholm Bromma.
