SAS to renew fleet with A350s and A330s

Airline signs $3.3 billion MOU with Airbus for 12 planes

SAS has signed a preliminary $3.3 billion deal with Airbus for 12 new aircraft, namely eight Airbus A350-900s (to be delivered from 2018) and four A330-300 Enhanced aircraft (from 2015).
The airline also says it will upgrade the cabins of some of its existing planes in an overhaul of its long-haul fleet, something it has been aiming to do for some time. The deals with unions and lenders late last year has put SAS on more secure footing to be able to achieve this.
“It will truly increase our competitiveness and strengthen our customer offering,” SAS CEO Rickard Gustafson says about the renewal of the fleet. “Furthermore, we are able to significantly bring down fuel consumption, which will lower our costs and support our goals to reduce emissions.”
