Scandic intensifies focus on food with new VP

Hotel chain appoints Mats Åstrand vice president food & beverage
Nordic hotel giant Scandic claims that food and beverage is “an increasingly important part of a hotel guest’s total customer experience”, something that is expected to contribute positive revenue growth within Scandic. To intensify the focus on this strategic area, it has recruited Mats Åstrand to be its new vice president for food and beverage.
Åstrand is currently director of operations at Fazer Food Services, which operates more than 200 restaurants in Sweden. He has experience in the service industry including a position as president and chief executive of Addici Group. He will start his new role on September 1.
Scandic offers food and drinks at close to 230 hotels in the Nordic region. Frank Fiskers, Scandic Hotels’ president & CEO said: “We are now in a phase where we want to improve our offering and service further to meet our customers’ demands going forward. Mats Åstrand has broad experience from working in consumer-oriented operations where quality and service development has been central. This gives him an excellent foundation for his new position at Scandic.”
