Scandic opens beachside hotel in Kristiansand

Architecture “inspired by mankind’s relationship with the sea”

The beachside Scandic Kristiansand Bystranda has opened its doors in Norway. It is located in the centre of town, on the coast and next door to Aquarama, home to one of the country’s biggest water parks.
The property has over 800 beds and 229 rooms, 23 of which are adapted for disabled guests. Scandic is emphasising that the design and architecture is “clearly inspired by mankind’s relationship with the sea”.
Svein Arild Steen-Mevold, vice president of Scandic Norway: “Scandic is growing and we are constantly on the hunt for hotel projects in great locations. We’ve found a real treasure with Scandic Kristiansand Bystranda – one of the finest hotels in Norway, right on the beach but at the same time in the heart of town [with the] best for holidaymakers and business travellers alike.”
He added that in summer the hotel will focus on families and tourists and in winter the focus will be on courses and conferences.
The new hotel has been built to meet all 110 points in Scandic’s “accessibility standard”, in which “smart solutions” make stays easy for guests who are hard of hearing, use a wheelchair or have some other disability.
