“Sexhibition” on at Lapland centre

Arktikum museum unveils Hot Stuff exhibition
The hottest exhibition of the year in Lapland, which opens today, reveals the secrets of “Arctic dating and mating, with a dash of hay barn romance and summer meadow”.
The exhibition, called Hot Stuff – Arctic Dating and Mating, is open at the Arktikum Science Centre in Rovaniemi, Finland, until April 22, 2018.
The eye-catching topic is expanded on by using “fantastic facts, passionate pictures and erotic artefacts as well as stories”, the museum explains.
It closes an Arktikum trilogy called The Survivors, having already told the stories of the shelter and food of northern people in the harsh Arctic environment.
“Without reproduction there wouldn’t be life,” says science communicator Marjo Laukkanen of the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland. “There are sperm pumps, cloacae and orgasms as well as courtship, harems and lifelong faithfulness.”
Erotic stories were gathered from the public. Two penis bones are on display, one of which is from the mammal species with the biggest baculum in the animal kingdom.
Exhibition designer Anna Hyvönen stresses that the sexual content is mentioned outside the exhibition room: “We want to respect families with small children as well as visitors with different cultural backgrounds.”
