Sheraton to open 30 hotels in 12 months

Openings propelled by strong growth in Asia Pacific

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide says its worldwide brand Sheraton will open 30 new hotels over the next 12 months. Half of the new Sheratons will be unveiled in China, lengthening Starwood’s lead as the biggest operator in the “upper upscale” hotel segment in the Asia Pacific region. Hotels will also open in other emerging markets including Latin America, the Middle East and Turkey. The plan puts Sheraton on track to open its 500th hotel in 2015.
Sheraton’s 15 new hotels across China over the next 12 months will move it closer to its target of 80 properties in this market by the end of 2015. One of the more notable openings in 2013 is the Sheraton Huzhou Hot Spring Resort, which has an innovative ring-shaped structure designed by cutting-edge architect Ma Yansong.
