Automatic gunfire erupts at country music festival
In a developing story on the Las Vegas Strip, at least 50 people have been killed and more than 200 injured, many of them critically, after gunfire broke out at a rock concert outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
The city’s metropolitan police said one suspect had been killed and did not believe there were any more shooters, but some witnesses initially reported other gunmen.
A large weekend-long country music festival, Route 91 Harvest, was underway at the Mandalay Bay. Many were gathered in a large crowd to watch a band on stage led by singer Jason Aldean when automatic gunfire erupted.
“The gunshots lasted for 10-15 minutes. It didn’t stop,” said one witness. “We just ran for our lives.”
The floodlights came and medics and security were called for, then there was gunfire again. “The gunfire never ended, it seemed like it went on and on and on.”
