Sickness at five-star hotel hits Thomas Cook

Operator faces compensation claims after outbreak in Turkey

Thomas Cook is likely to face claims for compensation after dozens of customers were hit by vomiting and diarrhoea at a five-star all-inclusive resort in Turkey.

The operator has temporarily suspended its holidays at the Sentido Perissia Hotel in Side, where guests had been complaining of under-cooked food and bad hygiene for weeks, according to press reports. Seven guests have been in hospital for over a week.

“Preliminary indications suggest the outbreak was of a viral nature,” Thomas Cook said. “The hotel has put in place a number of preventative measures to minimise any further illness. Our team in resort are providing assistance to our guests and we will continue to closely monitor the situation.”
