“Son of Concorde” to fly London-New York in an hour

New supersonic jet to reach three times the speed of sound
Airbus has filed patents for a new supersonic jet. Dubbed “son of Concorde”, it would fly from London to New York in just over an hour, reaching three times the speed of sound – around 4000 km/h.
The aircraft manufacturer says the new aircraft would be largely for “business travel and VIP passengers who require transcontinental return journeys within one day”.
It also said the military could use it for strategic reconnaissance as well as “ultra-rapid transport of high added-value goods or elite commandos”.
Documents that have been lodged with the US Patent Office have described Concorde mark 2 as an “ultra-rapid air vehicle”. It would take off almost vertically, cruise at more than 100,000 feet and carry 20 passengers for distances of up to 9,000 kilometres. It would then re-enter normal airspace as it approached its destination.
