Stavanger to Gothenburg and Kristiansund to launch

UK carrier continues its expansion in Scandinavian market

The UK-based carrier bmi is continuing its expansion in the Nordic market with the launch of scheduled services from Stavanger to both Kristiansund and Gothenburg.

The new routes will start on January 23, with Stavanger-Gothenburg operating daily Sunday to Friday, and Stavanger-Kristiansund operating daily Monday to Friday.

The airline says the two routes will complement its services from Aberdeen to Oslo and Kristiansund and the new routes it will launch from Stavanger to Harstad-Narvik (Evenes) and Tromsø on January 23.

Providing improved connectivity to the oil and gas industry has been a key motivation for the airline’s route development in Scandinavia and northeast Scotland in recent months.

“The additional connectivity that we are providing out of Stavanger will further enhance our offering to the people, communities and businesses that we serve in Norway and Sweden,” Cathal O’Connell, chief executive of bmi, said. “We anticipate that the new routes will attract both business and leisure traffic and support socio-economic development in the region.”

Leif Lorentzen, airport director, Stavanger: “Improved connectivity between Stavanger and Kristiansund has been on the region’s wish-list for three years in a row – we know that the increased schedule will be welcome by the Stavanger and Kristiansund business community. Stavanger Airport is particularly delighted that a sought-after route like Gothenburg is reopened, having not been operated for a number of years.”
