Man seized after getting off a plane from Stockholm

A 34-year-old man from Sweden has been detained at London’s Stansted Airport for “possessing terrorism materials”.

He was seized after getting off a plane from Stockholm that landed just before 08:00 yesterday and remains in custody at a police station in Essex, UK.

Scotland Yard, the headquarters of London’s Metropolitan Police Service, said that counter-terrorism officers were holding the Swedish national after arresting him at Stansted.

Dangerous materials
The materials in his possession were likely to have been of use to someone committing or preparing an act of terrorism, police said.

He was stopped by Eastern Region Counter Terrorism Police under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act.

Investigations by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command are underway, but further information has not been released.
