Swede shot while sunbathing in Turkey

Bullet extracted in emergency operation not from air rifle

A 17-year-old Swede has been shot in the back while on a family holiday in the popular resort of Antalya, Turkey. At the time he was shot he had been lying down by the hotel pool. The bullet lodged close to his spine and was extracted successfully during an emergency operation. The event is still a mystery, since no one heard a shot and the boy was listening to music at the time. The family is reported to be from Kiruna in northern Sweden.
The bullet was found to be real, not simply a pellet from an air rifle. Turkish police believe that it was fired from a distance and hit the boy by mistake.
