Sweden passport issuers feel pressure

Summer holiday period proves stressful for passport people

A mountain of passport applications coinciding with the summer holiday period is putting Sweden’s passport issuing authorities under pressure. The number of people travelling abroad this year appears to be more than ever. In Stockholm County, the application mountain started to grow in March, reaching a peak in May and June with more than 40,000 applications coming in a month.
Passport office staff in Stockholm, Västra Götaland, Skåneare and other parts of the country are working overtime and opening hours have been extended. For the first time this year visitors have been able to book their visit to the passport office online.
