Sweden train crash kills truck driver

Accident happens on crossing without signals

A collision between a passenger train and a truck in Sweden has killed the driver of the truck and injured a number of passengers, some of whom were rushed to hospital. The accident occurred at around midday on Wednesday at a crossing without sound or light signals outside Forserum, on a line connecting Jönköping with Nässjö. The train was carrying about 60 passengers. Two carriages were derailed. However, the driver of the train escaped uninjured.
“It’s a small branch road and the crossing over the tracks is completely unguarded,” Jönköping police spokesman Jan Lagerqvist told the news agency TT. He verified that police would conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.
