Wine tasters from Sweden beat teams from around the world
Wine tasters from Sweden beat teams from France and other winemaking nations at the weekend in an international blind tasting contest.
Sweden won the fifth edition of the event, held in France’s Cote d’Or wine-growing region, coming top among 24 teams including last year’s winners China.
The teams had to identify six whites and six reds from around the world, by country of origin, grape varieties, appellations and vintages.
The Chinese came ninth this year, while the French team, which finished second last year, came 11th.
“The French tasters are excellent, but they are more used to tasting [French] wines,” explained Denis Savarot, managing editor of La Revue du Vin de France, a monthly wine magazine that organises the event.
This year, tasters from Zimbabwe took part in the contest for the first time. They came 23rd.
