Fourteen tourists missing in remote, high-altitude location
A Swede is among 14 people who have gone missing in mountains in the south of Peru, the Swedish Foreign Ministry says. A helicopter operated by the company HeliCusco appears to have crashed. It was also carrying eight South Koreans and tourists from the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. The helicopter took off in the city of Mazuco bound for the tourist hub of Cusco, but it never arrived.
Officials are checking to see if there was an emergency landing in the remote, high-altitude region of Hualla Hualla. But search and rescue teams have yet to reach the area, hampered by a snow storm in the area.
