Tablets bring hotel services into 21st century

A trend of hotel chains developing tablet apps has just begun

The tablet format of the computer, particularly Apple’s iPad and HP’s TouchPad, is rapidly improving connectivity and interaction in hotel guestrooms. But only a few hotels have invested in creating tablet apps for tablet-carrying guests, so competition in this area is still moderate. The Hotel Beaux Arts Miami, a JW Marriott Collection hotel, purchased 44 iPads and has a proprietary guest app that makes use of Intelity’s Interactive Customer Experience software. The most important opportunities for hotels are expressing hotel information (the old printed folder containing the guest services directory); communicating room service; and replacing the phone in telling staff guests’ requests and questions.
