Tallest building in SE Asia to have luxury hotel

“Super Tower” would be second-tallest building if built today

Bangkok will be the location of Southeast Asia’s tallest superstructure when completed in 2019. If it were here today it would be the second-tallest building in the world after Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, but by the time 2019 comes along it will be the world’s ninth tallest.

The new “Super Tower”, as it is called, will be 615 metres tall with 125 floors. It will include a six-star hotel with 260 rooms, as well as offices and a panoramic observation deck and rooftop garden. Thailand hopes the new structure will lead to a vote of confidence in the Thai economy and in tourism, following years of political uncertainty.

The current record holder in Southeast Asia is Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas twin towers, standing 452 metres tall.
