Thai and Malaysia post smaller losses

Loss for Thai is $49 million, for Malaysia Airlines $112 million

Both Thai Airways and Malaysia Airlines have reported their latest quarterly figures for the April-June period, with losses at both carriers being smaller than in the same quarter last year. Thai reported a quarterly net loss of THB1.53 billion ($49 million) – much smaller than the THB7.87 billion loss it made a year before but a step back from the of THB3.64 billion profit it made in the first quarter of 2012. It pointed to fierce competition as the reason for passenger yields falling even as passenger numbers improve, but promised a return to profit in Q3 when the tourist season starts.
Malaysia Airlines cut its quarterly net loss to MYR 349.248 million ($112 million) from Q2 2011’s MYR526.68 million. It said that its pricing and revenue management was improving while fuel and passenger-related costs are falling.
