Thailand on track for strong year

More than 35 million tourists flood the country
Thailand is on track to welcome over 35 million tourists in 2017, easily exceeding the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s target of 34 million.
If current rates continue, 35.1 million tourists will visit the country this year, up 7.8% from 2016, while tourism revenue is projected to increase by 9.8% to 1.8 trillion baht (€45.7 billion).
With close to 17 million arrivals recorded in the first half of the year, Vichit Prakobgosol, president of the Association of Thai Travel Agents, tells TTG Asia that signs are pointing towards better performance in the second half.
Larger rises in tourist numbers are from elsewhere in Asia including China, Southeast Asia, Japan and India, each showing growth of up to 10% over last year. Arrivals from Vietnam and South Korea saw increases of 20-30%.
But Vichit still voiced some concerns, such as tourist safety, accessibility, orderliness of tourist attractions and currency exchange movements.
