Thomas Cook acts as child-snatching gang targets hotel

Operator steps up security after reports of attempted abduction
Thomas Cook has offered to move families from a hotel in Cyprus after kidnappers reportedly targeted children staying there on holiday. However, the owners of the hotel, which has excellent online reviews, deny claims that three children were the victims of an attempted abduction.
The incident happened at the Anastasia Beach Complex, near Protaras, on Tuesday night when a gang appeared to be trying to lure children into a car. Greg Letford, a father-of-two from Scotland, told the newspaper the Daily Record that a Romanian couple tried to lure two children aged under 10 into a waiting car and “another person had a third child up against a wall ready to go”.
“Someone spotted what they were up to and stopped them. If he hadn’t been there, those kids would have gone,” he said.
Guests staying at the hotel have praised the swift actions of Cook. According to the newspaper the Mirror, it has moved around 60 Irish and British holidaymakers.
“Thomas Cook has requested an increased and immediate security presence at the hotel,” a spokesperson for the company told the Mirror. “The safety and welfare of our customers is always our first priority and, upon hearing about the incident, we immediately deployed our experienced resort team to the property to provide those customers in residence with individual support.
“Customers who did not wish to stay at the property were moved to alternative hotels of a similar or higher standard.
“While incidents of this nature are extremely rare, we would like to reassure all customers that this is being taken seriously and we are continuing to work closely with the local authorities and the hotel as the investigation continues.
“Any customers with concerns about future holidays at this hotel are asked to contact us directly so we can deal with them personally and directly.”
