Tivoli risks harming brand with online gaming

Tivoli’s gambling site profits from problem gamblers
An online casino operated by Copenhagen’s famous amusement park Tivoli is in the middle of a firestorm after a pensioner described by his family as “alcoholic and depressed” lost over half a million kroner on the site late last year.
The man’s son has sent a letter to Lars Liebst, Tivoli’s chief executive, saying the park risks ruining its “almost immaculate brand and reputation” by not taking enough care and responsibility communicating with customers who are clearly spending and losing too much money.
“Why is there no alert system that my father in November and December 2015 played for a total of DKK 500,000 [€67,150]?” the son wrote. “Sick people cannot stick to a controlled maximum number of games per day, week or month. They cannot stop. And you know that.”
Liebst responded that warnings are in place on the site and wondered if the family would have written “if the man had won half a million kroner”.
