Today SAS flies first A330 Enhanced in Europe

New A330-300 Enhanced departs CPH for Chicago
A new chapter in long-haul flights from Europe begins today as SAS becomes the first European airline to fly the new Airbus A330-300 Enhanced, departing Copenhagen for Chicago.
SAS’s newest aircraft is its 13th long-haul plane, named Tore Viking, which leaves for Chicago at 15:40. It is the first of four new A330-300 Enhanced aircraft that will be added to the SAS fleet over the next six months.
Another one will be delivered in September and the remaining two in 2016. From 2018, deliveries will also start of SAS’s new Airbus A350-900. The airline says the new aircraft will enable it to fly longer distances with lower fuel consumption, with 2% less fuel consumption than the A330.
The materials and colour scheme in the cabin of the new aircraft “have been carefully chosen to create a calm and welcoming atmosphere”, SAS says, with mood lighting, “good storage” and extra space. SAS Business has direct access to the aisle and seats that can be fully reclined into a bed position.
There is also a new inflight entertainment system throughout the cabin, with HD screens and wireless Internet access. SAS is also updating its existing long-haul aircraft with the same new cabin interior in 2015 and 2016.
The first new A330-300 Enhanced will in the first month fly Copenhagen-Chicago and will then operate between Stockholm and both Hong Kong and Chicago.
