Tour operator to offer North Korea beach holidays

Itineraries include sandy stretches and climbing Mount Kumgang
North Korea might not be the first destination that springs to mind when it comes to beach holidays but British budget tour operator Young Pioneer Tours is hoping that will change.
The company, which started out in 2008, is offering trips taking in the capital Pyongyang and the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Itineraries include sandy stretches such as Wonsan, Kumgang and Hamhung, plus the possibility of climbing Mount Kumgang.
“Trips to North Korea can be quite hard going, as there are lots of monuments to see, cooperative farms and what have you, while you’re learning about the country,” Gareth Johnson, the operator’s chief executive, explained. “We have included the DMZ on this trip but it is essentially a beach holiday.”
