Transport commissioner to be Estonian PM?

Current Estonian prime minister endorses Siim Kallas

The probably is growing that Siim Kallas, European Commission vice president and Transport Commissioner, is getting ready for a comeback in Estonian politics.

Ten years ago, Kallas handed over the chairmanship of the country’s right-of-centre Reform Party to Andrus Ansip, who has been Estonia’s long-serving prime minister for the last nine of those years.

Now Ansip has said that Kallas would make a good prime minister. Meanwhile, Kallas has sent a letter to party members saying that said that he would return to politics in Estonia and accept the job of prime minister if offered.

Kallas has made it clear that he will not run for the European Parliament, as he does not want to compete against his daughter, Kaja Kallas, and would like to return home. Ansip may also be looking at the post of the next Estonian commissioner.
