Tunisia to agents: sun-lovers wanted!

New Islamist government holds conference to promote tourism

A conference designed to promote tourism in Tunisia has been held on the white-sand island of Djerba. Tourists’ western tastes will be respected, the country has promised, and luxury spas will remain open. Tunisia’s new Islamist government says that semi-naked sun worshippers are welcome on the country’s beaches.
“We will respect the traditions of our visitors in their food, clothing and lifestyle,” Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali said at the conference. “Unfortunately, some want to paint Tunisia as a jungle and sow fear of the Ennahda government, but this does not reflect reality.”
In contrast, Libya has said that it does not intend to open itself to mass tourism like Tunisia and Morocco.
