Turkish Resort to Host Golf Travel Market

Major event for golf travel worldwide will be held in Belek in 2011.

Belek, in the Antalya region of Turkey, is to host the 14th International Golf Travel Market next year. Billed as the world’s premier global event for golf tourism suppliers and buyers, the mart will take place on 14-17 November 2011, the week after the World Travel Market in London. Situated close to the tourist metropolis of Antalya on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, Belek has 14 world-class golf venues, including signature courses by Sir Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie, and a range of 4- and 5-star hotels to match the courses.

Belek, which is around 30 kilometres from Antalya Airport, has managed to position itself at the heart of Turkish golf. According to Millennium Golf, an inbound and outbound agency for golf tourism in Antalya, 349,000 rounds of golf were played in 2009 and 400,000 rounds were played in the first 10 months of 2010. Reed Travel Exhibitions’ group exhibition director, Mark Walsh, said: “Turkey, the 2008 IAGTO Best Golf Destination winner, and Belek Antalya in particular, has enjoyed spectacular recent success, and now is the right time to host the world’s largest gathering of golf tourism professionals in this exciting destination.”
